OZARK TRAIL IN MISSOURI

Overview: This section of the eastern division of the OZT main loop extends from Sam A. Baker State Park to the southern boundary of Lake Wappapello State Park running in a north to south direction. Spur trails are being built (one to be dedicated 10/1/97) to link Lake Wappapello S.P. trails to the OZT with a nearby trailhead on hwy. 72. The state parks are under MO-DNR and Lake Wappapello and its surrounds are owned by and leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

(At Lake Wappapello S.P.) are [1] Allison Cemetery (3.5 mi), [2] Lake View (0.5 mi), [3] Asher Creek, [4] Lake Wappapello (15 mi) with 2 spur trails 5-6 mi long connecting to OZT, one targeted to open 10/1/97. Also, Corps of Engineer trails: [5] Pine Ridge Nature Trail (1 mi double loop), [6] Lost Creek Nature Trail (1 mi natl Recreation Trail), [7] 38 mi section of OZT passes through, [8] Memory Lane Histric Walk (1 mi) in National Register of Historic Places. (At Sam A. Baker S.P.) is the Mudlick (12 mi) National Recreation Trail for hikers, bikers, and equestrian users.
