FUTURE PLANS FOR THE OZARK TRAILS SYSTEM WEBSITE

Phase 2 Development Plan

The first phase of this website is designed to answer the key questions "HOW DO I GET THERE?" and "WHAT WILL I SEE?" The next phase of development will address the need to know "WHAT IS THERE TO DO WHEN I GET THERE?"

We plan to add event calendars, camping menu suggestions, and locations of places to eat, general stores with provisions, canoe and camping gear suppliers.

A key Phase 2 feature will be trail news including reports from Ozark Trail clubs, trail condition updates, and stories about the trail contributed by hikers. Periodic reports from the Leave No Trace program will be furnished. An interactive forum and Photo Gallery are part of the plan. We want to make the related URL link list comprehensive.

These overall goals are the same in January 2000 as they were in 1997 when the website was first posted.

This update was done on Jan 18, 2000. Added features include:

In August of 1999, the authors toured the entire length of the Ozark Highlands Trail, the Buffalo National River and Trail, and the unbuilt portion of the Arkansas Ozark Trail. The extended Buffalo River national trail will go through the Lower Buffalo and Leatherwood Wilderness areas, possibly through the Sylamore Forest, around the southern end of Norfork Lake and head north to join up with the Missouri Ozark trail. We took lots of video and photos and collected large amounts of new trail information. This new material will be posted as time permits.

Suggestions for additions to this site are always welcome!
